this is fox 5 news at 10:00. a wild police chase across virginia and maryland forcing a security officer to open fire. new details about the woman who wouldn't stop. it's gorgeous fall temperatures out there but could tropical storm trouble bring change our way. the city leader that's toying with the idea and how it would be different from the ban in new york city. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm bryan bolter. we are going to start off with the wild police chase in virginia and maryland. at one point a security officer at the walter reed military hospital opened fire. >> here with how it all went down and new details about that suspect, bob. >> reporter: the woman now in police custody is from man as

as. she's a nurse's aid but we're not sure whether she had any ties to the hospital in beth ez da where a police officer working for the navy fired a shot at her today. >> by the time police finally caught up with her angela had crashed her mitsubishi with at least one blown tire at a fence. even then officers struggled to get the 27-year-old woman out of her car and into handcuffs. they say she had just caught attention of virginia police while allegedly speeding at highway 66 at 93 miles per hour. minutes into driving into bethesda, police say she crashed her way on to an entrance ramp of walter reed military police officers. we are told they notice. >> we are told they noticed her biting or attempting to eat a

bar of soap. >> reporter: police say after pulling away, making a u turn and heading back toward the military hospital, cobbled got stuck in traffic. >> an officer approached her. she wouldn't roll down her windows and she took her vehicle, left the road way and traveled up the grassy portion towards this crosswalk. >> reporter: that's when a 12 year veteran fired at least one gunshot toward her car after she allegedly tried to ram him over. cobble then drove another 2 miles north screaming about jesus according to a source at the scene. cobble lives in this make nass as townhouse with her sister. they didn't answer our knock on the door. this woman spoke to us, she lives next door. >> she seems quiet but nothing

odd that i have seen, not to that extent that i have noticed anything weird or anything. she was quiet. >> reporter: please tell us angela cobble was taken to a hospital where she's been questioned by police. >> it's not clear whether she was injured during that wild ride or when she was arrested or just sent to the hospital for a mental check up. cable does have previous citations, one from four years ago. a news alert out of false church where police are asking for your help finding a man who may be link to do a sex assault. the latest incident happened friday afternoon. a woman told police she was walking with a baby stroller along south maple avenue when a man groped her. she said he finally let her go after she screamed. anyone with information is

asked to call police. a boy will go to a therapy pout i can group home after killing his 13-year-old sister. he entered a plea to charges, meaning he wasn't admitting guilt. the boy beat his 2-year-old foster sister to death but no one knows why. he will not be around any children and he will only have contact with his family with supervision. a tax office employee is accused of a massive fraud totally nearly $4 million. prosecutors say kimberly davis filed more than a thousand fraudulent federal, state and dc tax returns. court documents say there were two other people involved but they haven't been indicted t. fraud in the district alone totaled more than $3000. a former -- is leaking the names of covert agents to a journalist.

john kir a cue pleaded guilty of releasing the names of the agents. as part of the plea deal dropped charged under the world war i he is peen. president obama and mitt romney fresh off their final debate hit the road in campaign attacks during visit to states that will decide the 2012 race. we're going to take a more in depth look but first up nichol collins with how the day played out. >> reporter: president obama hit the campaign trail trying to put fresh emphasis on his plans for a second term while releasing what his team calls a blue print for the future. >> my plan actually be move america forward. >> reporter: the president outlined his jobs plan picking through previously released proposals and his campaign releasing an ad again trying to

hone in on a second term message. mitt romney's campaign releasing two ads today, one highlighting his plan to create 12 million jobs. >> i'm going to make sure we get people off of food stamps. >> reporter: president obama also stopped in battle ground ohio with joe biden and continued to portray mitt romney as the candidate changing his position to get elected. >> that's called romnesia. we joke about governor romney being all over the map but it speaks to something important. >> reporter: the republican ticket spent the day in western toss up states. in nevada mitt romney and paul ryan continued to criticize the president about not providing enough specifics about another 4 year term. >> that's why his campaign is taking on water. >> reporter: in an effort to appeal to young voters president obama sits down with

a live interview with mtv this friday. governor romney has been invited to do the same sometime before the election. joining me now is fox 5 political analyst mark plot kin. let's start with president obama, how are things trending there now for him and does he need florida to get to that magical elect tore al vote. >> he sure would like it but he doesn't need to win just if he wins florida. if he loses loses florida he still can win if he wins ohio and virginia and he thinks there's a mid western firewall where even if he lost the big three, ohio, virginia and florida, which would be really disastrous, he can win a

colorado, nevada and new hampshire but that's the worst case scenario. >> let's talk about the worst case scenario with mitt romney as well, he was in, with the highest in the nation. why doesn't this become a romney state, one that we can count on? >> there's a large labor organization mostly around clark county in las vegas that contributes a lot of the vote there. and there's a very large and growing hispanic population. and as you know the president is about 70% and he's at, romney, about 25%. so it's 6 elect oral votes but romney wants to win them. >> well, mark you would agree the latino vote could have a big impact. who is really connecting with

niece -- these voters more successfully. >> it seems to me that president obama by his act saying that young people are the children of undocumented workers can stay here, that was, even though he's deported very large numbers in terms of his administration, he's overwhelming favored. the real question is will they turn out and will they turn out in such great numbers in the states that you just mentioned, also including virginia that it will be enough of a margin to represent president obama. >> let's wrap it up with this one. the final debate was last night and some republicans were saying romney was more subdued. especially over libya. do you think this was part of a strategy, not to be so aggressive. >> yes, absolutely. i think they told him, act presidential. in some way he got the same advice president obama got in the first debate.

there. down in fredericksburg they were close to the mid-80s. i saw them at 80 about 4:00. i do want to show you a pleasant evening out there. temperatures cooling off 66 degrees. gaithersburg down to 5. make nass as and cull pepper into the 50s as well. i think here in town we'll probably stay in the 60s but in the suburbs down to the lower 50s. let me show you, this is tropical storm sandy down in the caribbean. location is just to the south of jamaica. wind is about 50 miles per hour with this storm, so still just kinds of a mid strength tropical storm. but she is forecast to become a hurricane over the next 24 hours and perhaps even move over jamaica sometime tomorrow, tomorrow evening as a category

one hurricane and continue up through cuba as well. you can see there, and then move up towards the east coast, already tropical storm watches in place for most of the bahamas. it becomes interesting late weekend, early part of next week, does she continue to move out into the atlantic or does she make a bit of a left turn and come back into the northeastern united states, maybe up around new jersey or new england. i don't think that's going to happen but some of the guides are still showing that. it might be a weekend player for us. all right, gary. the bay bridge back open after a propane spill shut it down. leaked on to the 330 at about -- after the closure, but the eastbound lanes reopened about 5:00 and the westbound lanes

in washington, allen voted to end tax deductions for college tuition. and now, a budget plan that devastates k-12 classrooms-- all to pay for even more tax breaks for the wealthy. seiu cope is responsible for the content of this ad. soda fans might have a fight on their hands. dc might now put a ban on extra large service. so everyone pays less for health care. parker has more. >> it's almost like a war. >> but maybe a war worth fighting according to dc council member mary chai. she said she will be talking to her fellow council members about battling big soda. >> as many as half the kids are obese or overweight. >> if the kids are drinking too

much soda it's up to parent toss reduce that amount themselves. but that's really a decision parents rather than mary shay and the council should make. >> recently implemented a ban on large sugary drinks and some say they would support a similar ban. >> this is not something we can ignore. i know some people say oh -- if there is a serious health problem, when hasn't the government looked to take steps to address it. >> let me lay it out for you. this is 16-ounces. this is 21. this is 32. in new york the ban is on anything larger than 16-ounces but in dc it could be different. in fact it could be a tax, meaning one penny per ounce on anything over the limit. and we have no idea what that limit might be. it's called an excise tax.

general distribution. say 5 people have died over the last 3 years after drinking monster energy. the reports were recently obtained under the freedom of information act by the mother of a 14-year-old maryland girl who died after drinking she says 2 cans of monster energy in a 24 hour period. >> she was gasping for air. i mean, it was just -- she was making she's awful noises and she had no pulse but her heart was still beating. got her on the floor and her heart had stopped and i started cpr. >> this is cross land wants to make sure energy drinks are regulated by the fda just like soda, just like no doz pills are regulated by the fda. and we also believe that energy

drinks need much better warnings on them. >> a little more on this. the teenagers cause of death was cardiac arrhythmia. we spoke with a doctor this evening about the dangers of too much caffeine. here's some of that. >> the concern would be if you're taking large amounts of caffeine. for a young person it's going to cause your heart rate to go faster. it can lead to exciteability and if certain people have heart conditions they shouldn't have too much caffeine. >> a spokesperson for monster energy said its products are safe and the company is unaware of any fatality anywhere caused by any of its drinks. the team making some moves on its off day. later a high stakes heist inside a vegas casino. cops say that man made off with more than a million dollars in

casino chips. and imagine this, cars with no drivers on city streets. it sometimes feels that way already. it could one day become a reality if the city council gets its way.  president obama: i'm barack obama and i approve... this message. anncr: victims. dependent. that's what mitt romney called forty-seven percent... of americans. including people on medicare. but what about his plan for you? romney would replace guaranteed benefits with a voucher system. seniors could pay six thousand dollars more a year. a plan aarp says would undermine medicare.
